“New high-rises coming to downtown Fort Myers”.  This reminds me of Mark Twain's quote "History does not repeat itself, but it surely rhymes;" only this time it will be a reality, and we will see a skyline in downtown Fort Myers' River District.  As reporter Ty Russell mentioned in his report, "The chain-linked gate won't be there long, and the warning sign for intruders will come down to make room for the high-rises.  That hasn't happened since 2008.”

I commend the Miami builders' vision for believing what everyone knows-our River District is a diamond in the rough. We must all show support to the River Districts' continued growth by visiting all the Art Walk, Music Walk, Mystery walks and other events downtown. Our goal is to make our River District a destination point.  New development in downtown will bring new jobs, new businesses, and new hope to an area where Edison once said, "There is only one Fort Myers," and 90 million people are going to find out."  I am now hopeful that 900 million are going to find out.

Lululemon Coming to Downtown Fort Myers

Guess who is getting a showroom in downtown Fort Myers?  Lululemon founded in 1998 in Vancouver, British Columbia; they are a yoga and exercise apparel retailer and they have a retail store in Naples' Waterside Shops .  Their showroom will be located in The Mercury Building at 1516 Jackson St.; Don Paight, executive director of the Fort Myers Redevelopment Agency, said Lululemon's arrival is a good sign for the downtown's future. I agree with Mr. Paight we are starting to see retailers and restaurants interested in being a part of our amazing River District.  I know we will be hearing more great news of restaurants and retailers by the end of this year, I can't wait!

Company seeks to develop ‘1st Street Village’ in Fort Myers A new company called Madison Avenue Investment Group is buying the property on West 1st Street, also known as 1st Street Village.  River District upgrade is ready to begin.  It seems surreal to me that finally this beautiful piece of property will now be developed.

The First Street Village plan calls for an “upscale urban” mixed-use development that includes condominium towers, offices, upscale and boutique retail locations, courtyards and resort-style amenities. I just read the latest news about Amtel Hotel in downtown Fort Myers sold for $13.5M    This is great news for the health of downtown Fort Myers's River District.  I was told that it took this courageous and persistent developer 18 months to negotiate this deal.  This of course is great news for the owners of  high-rises in downtown Fort Myers.
